We are especially interested in original research that utilitizes <em>shashi</em>, or methodological examinations of them. <br /><br /><em>Shashi</em> are gray literature published by companies themselves to commemorate significant anniversaries, such as the 10th, 50th and 100th. Since the Meiji period, many Japanese companies have published <em>shashi</em>. These books contain not only the company's history, but also that of their industries. They reflect changes in culture, conditions and social environment.<em> Shashi</em> also present history going back to the medieval and early modern periods, since so many Japanese companies have experienced extraordinary longevity. There are more than 50,000 companies over 100 years old in Japan; 3,886 of them are over 200 years old. <em>Shashi</em> are a window into that history.
